In 'Partie de campagne', the artist Jan Vanriet demonstrates his love of France in seventy-one colourful watercolours based on the same number of summer scenes from Jean Renoir's short feature film of the same title ('A day in the country') from 1936. With watercolour and brush, but above all with dedication and craftsmanship, Vanriet recaptures the carefree France of the past: a boat on the water, an outing to the countryside, all unsullied and without worries. The result is a book which will ease the senses, preceded by the artist's poem 'Bijt de vis?' [Is the fish biting?], and followed by a delightful story by film director Marc Didden, who uses a piece of French art and film history to cheerfully expatiate on both Jan Vanriet and the Renoir family.
